The Library

It is a proven scientific fact that the most effective thing you can do to get your child to READ, is to read aloud stories and poems - the more the better, and the earlier even better.

In recognition of this, The Choice School has a Junior Library catering to the needs of 6-9 years old (Std. I - IV).

The Junior Library is a relaxed place where children's listening, conversational, reading, comprehension and writing skills are improved through activities.

For the little ones, poems and stories are read aloud and a conversation initiated in that connection, which improves their vocabulary.
Picture cards of 2 or 3 items are displayed and a game ensues in which the children have to narrate a story (using these items) either individually or collectively.
Listening skills are further promoted in a structured manner when the older ones listen to audiotapes like Karadi Tales.
The next stage is where the children read aloud in turn and answer questions on the passages or stories. New words are displayed prominently and explained.
Students of classes III and IV are issued books of their choice for home reading. In class they do story sequencing with jumbled sentences and pictures and also contribute their own stories for the display board. Collected contributions are made up into a class magazine.

The Reading programme encourages active parent participation by surrounding the child with books; reading aloud so that the child will learn to love books and look upon them as well loved friends.

The Senior Library

A special place for the students and teachers alike and definitely one of the most sought after. It is centrally airconditioned and well stocked.

The Senior Library caters to the children of class V and above.

Every member of the Choice School is entitled to access over 15,000 books, 30 magazines, 5 daily newspapers and educational aids.
Automatic membership to the Scholastic Book club from Scholastic USA, the giant publishers of books for children. 3 special offers of books at discounted rates per year are given.
At least one Book Fair per year is conducted in school.
Children are also invited to be part of a "Readers Club" in an on-going weekly readership programme which conducts book reviews and book talks regularly.
Every Child is given instructions on how to use basic references for project and assignments.
Competitions such as Book Review, Book Cover Design, Poetry and Story Writing are also held from time to time.
The Computer Lab
Over 30 Pentium computers and a team of highly qualified staff make the computer department most effective. The Primary Lab caters to classes 1 to 4, teaching basic theory with hands on interactive learning through CDs like Kid pix, MS paint and Story Weaver. The Senior Lab deals with classes 5-10 and prescribed texts cover all theoretical aspects. Classes 11 & 12 have an Independent Lab since they have the option of taking up Informatics or Computer Science as a subject. All the teachers of the school are also trained to have working knowledge of computers.

Special Educational Needs

Dyslexia is not hearing disability. It is reading disability. For example, reading is a common problem faced by 10% of school going children today. These children are normally intelligent individuals who have difficulties in specific areas like reading, writing, or arithmetic. The child understands all that is taught, can express orally but faces difficulty while expressing in writing.

The Choice School makes an effort to identify children with learning difficulties, gives them special care and provides remedial classes for them. Special allowances are also extended as per the need to lessen the burden of the child. This is an area that the school specializes in.

Understanding, positive reinforcement and encouragement along with remediation makes learning and school life a pleasant experience for children with differing disabilities at The Choice School.
